Robert Boulle

I have been practising as a Clinical Psychologist for the past 26 years, after initially pursuing a career as a teacher. My special field of interest is transpersonal psychology, the integration of psychology and spirituality, as well as interpersonal or relational psychology. I have outlined my approach to the integration of psychology and Christian spirituality in a book entitled, Going toward your truth: Deepening your relationship with God.

In my work as a therapist, I offer individual therapy, as well as couples therapy and group therapy. I draw on various therapeutic approaches, namely Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focus Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), incorporating Mindfulness Skills into my overall approach.

Through my experience as a therapist over the last 25 years, I have noticed myself being convinced more and more of the fundamental need for healthy relationships both with ourselves and others. In essence, then, my work as a therapist is best summed up by saying that I develop a therapeutic relationship with my clients, and accompany them on the inner journey of self-discovery, as well as the process of developing and strengthening intimacy with others. I believe that an individual’s happiness is the felt experience of being able to engage intimately with ourselves and others.

In the therapy setting, I endeavour to create a warm and accepting atmosphere that facilitates the safe exploration of the client’s inner world.

My therapy approach is strongly informed by schema therapy model, as well as the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. In addition, the Voice Dialogue approach put forward by Hal and Sidra Stone has positively impacted my therapy style. All these models describe the individual self as having different parts. Becoming familiar with, and moving into a relationship with all our different parts is a fundamental step in the growth and healing process.
